Every day on tour in 2012, we would see our longtime friend and lighting director Paul Logan wake up early and start typing on his laptop. A couple of years later, the words he wrote then were turned into a movie starring Al Pacino and directed by David Gordon Green.
We, along with David Wingo (who we had previously worked with on Green's movie Prince Avalanche), were thrilled to be asked to make the music for this movie. Green asked us to come in early in the filming to see some scenes, and we were treated to scenes of a multiple car crash with a watermelon truck, a beehive on a mailbox, and a cat surgery. Those surreal, magical, playful, off-kilter scenes set the tone for the music we wrote.
The movie is called Manglehorn, and it is released June 19th in some cities. Our soundtrack is released the same day in digital formats, and a vinyl version is planned for later in the year on Temporary Residence.
